• Review of "Cafe 4342" at Forest Hill

  We were excited to try this cafe after hearing good feedback. Two of us ordered the same main meal (chicken curry $22) and it was literally swimming in oil. We ate some but felt 'ick' waiting for the oil to drip off each mouthful. We told the waitress, who just took the plates away and didn't apologise. When paying the bill, we had to ask for it to be reduced due to the oily meals. The owner then came and apologised and took the price of one meal off the bill, but we felt like not paying for either. The young wait staff were slow and inefficient, we had to go looking for someone so we could order coffee and dessert, and there were only four tables occupied at the time! The desserts were very nice but the board was misleading - desserts that were sold out were not marked "n/a" and desserts that were marked "n/a" were still available. When we asked the waitress about this she said "we haven't updated it" - why not? This cafe needs more mature and better trained staff with people skills. * In response to your response - if I owned a cafe and wanted people to keep coming back, I would train my young staff at quiet times and put the experienced staff on at the busy times, and I presume weekends would be your busiest times. If the staff don't want to work on weekends, maybe they shouldn't be working in hospitality. Patrons need to have a positive experience if you want them to return.
